As a followup to Ron's inquiry if money is needed, Kay & I plan to contribute this week. Judy, Charlie, & all the classmates who do the planning & hard work for our class are greatly appreciated by us. We hope many classmates will respond.  Let everyone know how the response is so we will know if we need to dig a little deeper. We love looking at the website & always look forward to our picnic & reunions.

I don't think I know many people like Rhrea and Paul.  You always knew that they loved and cared for each other.  She will have so many wonderful memories of his sense of humor, his soft spoken words, and his ability to make any food take special.   Everyday, we need to hold those we love as close as possible.

A Big Thank You to Judy and Charles for all they do to keep our classmates informed of what is going on with everyone. I really enjoyed our picnic at the Round House this year and seeing those who came from near and far. People and friends here in NC find it hard to believe that our High School Class still keeps in touch and has gatherings like we do, they think it is wonderful and so do I. A friend told me we have an unusual class and I told her we are unusual people. Looking forward to 2018 our Big 60th, Wow.. pray we will all still be around to attend.
Let us know if we can help on funds.........

Kudos to Judy and Charlie for getting us all together and making the arrangements for the Round House at Central Park.  It is so good to be able to meet classmates after all these years and somehow still remember most.  If you two will let us know, I'm sure all classmates will chip in to send monies to keep our web page and activities of reunions continuing.  I appreciate all those who drove from other cities and states to get together once again.  Looking forward to our 60th Reunion in 2018!  Wow that's hard to believe.

Once again, thank you Charlie and Judy for planning such a nice afternoon. I always enjoy seeing AHS classmates. We never know who might not be there the next time. Appreciation to those who came from Louisvile, Lexington, Grayson, West Virginia and other places.  I love it that Charles Russell Elementary is always well represented. How many other people are able to reconnect with friends from fourth grade. My friends in Carmel are astounded that we remember each other and they are jealous! We are lucky. To Ernie and some of the others who are taking the train trip to Henning, WVa, please send pictures to put on the travel section of the website. Judy and Charlie, We are willing and should chip in to keep the website alive and to finance future picnics. I am willing to send out the word. Thanks again! Donna Skeens

I want to thank Judy and Charlie for keeping the AHS 1958 website up and running.  Those of us living out of state would have no idea what is happening in our hometown or to our classmates without this website.  We all appreciate it.

Judy Patton called this morning with the sad news that we've lost Bucky Minnehan.  I found out about his great sense of humor when we sat beside each other in numerous classes at Putnam...guess it was the "M" section seating that let me get to know him.  And it was always so good to see him at the reunions...I will miss his hearty hugs and updates!!

Every time we lose another classmate, it makes me realize how important it is to make an effort to keep in touch through our website, reunions, emails, and even an occasional handwritten note.  I am so sorry to hear about Kenny.  He and Bucky were both two of the faithful ones who always seemed happy to see everyone.  They will both be missed.

Judy, please extend a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our classmates. We have had computer issues off and on since Christmas. I was so sorry that I was unable to attend the proposed picnic this last Oct. 2. (and that it had to be cancelled). My husband and I belonged to the UK athletic club for many years and sponsored three football players who played under Fran Curci's years. Every year we have a reunion on Oct. 2 of Curci's Cats. As a sponsor, I have to be there and work signing everyone in. Please keep me informed of any upcoming events and I will try to attend. I would love to see everyone... Love, Judy

A very Merry Christmas to all my classmates.  Hope your holidays are happy and stress-free. Be sure to remember the reason for the season. Di and I will be celebrating with our three kids and six grandchildren. We missed our picnic in 2015 because of Di's health, but we're hopeful of attending in 2016. We have sure enjoyed seeing all you young AHS classmates over the years. Judy and Charlie, you guys have done a great job with the website, and we owe you many thanks.

Merry Christmas to the class of '58.  Thank you Judy and Charlie for continuing this website.  I hope more of our classmates will use this forum to stay connected.  It is too bad that our gathering did not occur in 2015.  Let us all make a New Year's resolution to not skip a reunion in 2016.  We don't want to only meet at funerals. Also, I am waiting to hear from more of you on "'On The Road."   Stay Healthy and Happy in the coming year and cherish every moment that you have.

I regret I will be unable to come to the picnic this year. I have always looked forward these past few years seeing classmates and hearing how their lives have been since graduation. There are many classmates I would love to see but I guess travel prevents or some reason to come to gatherings. My reason for not coming is now I have the role of caregiver for my husband Don who has the horrible disease of Alzheimer's with symptoms of dementia/ physchosis. I have a wonderful daughter and son along with sitters, numerous friends but most of all God is with me each day. Please keep us in your prayers. I hope the picnic will still happen ...thanks to all who plan and organize.

I hated to have to cancel my reservation to the picnic.  It is too bad that many of our classmates who live in Ashland are not attending.  Charlie and Judy, you have tried to keep us together.  I thank you. An important engagement in Carmel on Saturday the 3rd prevents me from keeping my reservation.  I always look forward to seeing our classmates.  We do not want to only gather when there is a funeral. I hope more will send in descriptions of their travels, their grandchildren, and other events.   I like our website better than Facebook because it seems a little friendlier. Donna

It looks like a great time at the Baer house at Christmas.  It would be fun to be able to attend to see it up close and personal. Be sure to watch the Marshall/ Northern Illinois bowl game next week.  My NI friends here are wearing their sweatshirts and touting their team.  I will be doing the same. Wish I were going to the game in Florida. If any of you go, please email pictures for our On The Road section. Merry Christmas!!!!

Just a note to say thank you Charlie, Judy and all who had a part in the planning of our annual picnic. It is always good to see everyone that can attend because we just never know about tomorrow. I know I don't get to talk to everyone but it is a pleasure to be part of the 1958 class of AHS and hope we can continue doing this in the future. So just keep smiling and hope to see you next time :)

Hey classmates, Diann and I were very upset to miss my 55th reunion, but we were there in spirit.  Di's Mom was in critical condition at that time and eventually passed away November 13, 2013....at the young age of 77.  Very tough blow for Di and still is.  We hope to see you at the 2014 picnic when most of us will be 74.  See how young 77 is.  We lost a couple of good guys this year.  Hopefully, we'll all be reunited someday.

Well it is sad to hear of another one of classmates passing, Charles Speaks. He lived close to me growing up and we attended the same church for awhile. I do appreciate seeing our old friends whenever we have a get-together and remembering some great memories with each other. God's Blessings and Good Health to all in this new year.

It was with great sadness that I read the little obit for my cousin, Jimmy Bunch, in the Lexington Herald-Leader this morning.  He was the son of my father’s brother, Ed Bunch, who worked his entire lifetime as a guard at the federal penitentiary near Summit, and of Ruth Bunch, a lifelong teacher in the Ashland Public School system.  Since my mother’s name was also Ruth Bunch, there was always confusion among merchants, etc. as to who was who.
Jimmy was a tall, good-looking blonde kid, a little lanky but nicely built.  We played together as children, and later, as teenagers, when I had a Huntington Herald route in his neighborhood and we played basketball on his side alley “court” when I was collecting my money from my customers. There were always eight or ten kids, playing in their school clothes, getting hot and sweaty,  beside his  Ashland Avenue home. I had not seen Jimmy more than once or twice in the last fifty years, but the thought of losing him, another of our class, has been disconcerting.

John's contributions to educating students and his business acumen will benefit all for years to come.  I was saving a program which had his mother's picture in it from when the Women's Club produced shows at the Paramount.  I will put it in the file at the Library.

I was a friend of John Thaxton when we were at AHS.  He and I went to weekend Turkey Shoots near Catlettsburg, except the winner of hitting the most clay targets normally got a ham instead of a turkey.  I have not seen John for fifty years; like many of us he left Ashland and never returned, thus losing track of early childhood friends.  Then the obituary comes and we realize how much we miss our old friend.  His children have never heard of me but suffice it to say to them, John and I were friends, old friend now fifty years later, but there is no better friend than an old friend.  Now I miss John.
